I don’t know exactly when it started, but at some point I noticed I was apologizing before I even finished a sentence.
If something bothered me, I’d already be explaining why it probably wasn’t a big deal or why I might be wrong.
Any time I tried to bring something up, the conversation would shift into how I misunderstood him or how that wasn’t what he meant.
I’d walk away from those talks feeling embarrassed for even opening my mouth.
The relationship is over now, but I still find myself replaying things in my head, wondering if I imagined them or if they really happened the way I remember.
